Stine had already become established with Goosebumps, and had apparently dabbled in the art of Choose Your Own Adventure style books already – what could possibly go wrong? Well quite a few things unfortunately basically this book is not the book I would recommend judging the entire series on. Opinions: Well, what can I say? This is where it all began for the GYG series. The critical choice of this section isn’t in your full control. You decide to search for them, and free them. You learn about some freaks that are in need of your aid, by some fortune-teller.

You are told that you need to play two games (just two?) or you will have to pay with your life. Story B: You choose to look at the attractions, which are basic carnival games like the “Wheel of Chance”.

You eventually learn you need to Escape From the Carnival of Horrors before midnight, or it’s all over, but you need to be careful because “there’s only one right way!”. You are met with traps that threaten to kill you, or incapacitate you in someway, but are pretty much ignorant to the whole thing until you have survived quite a few choices. Story A: You choose to go on the rides, but something seems off about them. You then look at the map and see that the carnival is so big it is divided into two halves one for rides, one for sideshow attractions – you choose one, and basically wish you hadn’t as there’s something wrong with this place. He decides that you can have a free run of the carnival, to test it out before it opens, and gives you a map.

You are then met by the manager – a huge man named Big Al. Plot: You and your two best friends Patty and Brad are out late at night, and come to a carnival that will be open soon, you all sneak in, and realize that it is much bigger than before, and all the rides look far more exiting than the stupid kiddy rides they had last year, and there are some 'interesting' side-stalls to play as well.
